Does BOTOX Hurt?
BOTOX injections are performed using a very fine needle, and most patients describe the sensation as a quick, small pinch.
Treatment is typically very quick, and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable throughout your appointment.
What Can I Expect During My BOTOX Appointment?
Before treatment, we’ll discuss your concerns and goals and evaluate your facial anatomy and muscle movement.
Small amounts of BOTOX are then carefully injected into the targeted muscles. The injections themselves typically take only a few minutes, and most patients can return to their normal day afterward.
When Will I See My BOTOX Results, and How Long Will They Last?
BOTOX does not work immediately. You may begin noticing changes within 3–5 days, with your results continuing to develop over the following days. We recommend allowing approximately 2 weeks to see your full result.
Results typically last around 3–4 months, although this varies from person to person and may depend on the area treated, dosage, and individual muscle activity.
Will BOTOX Make Me Look Frozen?
Our goal is a refreshed, natural-looking result, not a frozen appearance.
BOTOX is customized based on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, movement, and goals. Thoughtful dosing and placement can soften unwanted lines while preserving natural facial expression.
Is There Downtime After BOTOX?
There is typically little to no downtime after BOTOX. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or small bumps at the injection sites can occur immediately after treatment and usually improve quickly.
Occasional bruising can also occur.
What Should I Do After BOTOX?
After treatment, we recommend a few simple precautions:
- Avoid rubbing, massaging, or putting significant pressure on the treated areas.
- Remain upright for approximately 4 hours after treatment.
- Avoid facials, facial massage, or treatments that place pressure on the injected areas immediately afterward.
- Follow any personalized instructions given by your injector.
You may gently apply makeup if needed, being careful not to aggressively rub the treated areas.
When Can I Exercise After BOTOX?
We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for the remainder of the day after your BOTOX treatment.
Normal light activity is generally fine. Your injector will let you know if any additional restrictions are recommended based on your treatment.
How Should I Prepare for My BOTOX Appointment?
Come to your appointment with clean skin when possible and let us know about medications, supplements, medical conditions, allergies, and previous injectable treatments.
Because certain medications and supplements can increase the chance of bruising, we’ll review anything relevant with you before treatment.
Do not stop a prescribed medication unless instructed to do so by the healthcare professional who prescribed it.
Can BOTOX Be Used Preventatively?
Yes. Some patients choose BOTOX before expression lines become deeply established.
By reducing repetitive muscle movement, BOTOX may help soften developing expression lines and slow their progression. There is no specific age when someone “should” start BOTOX—the decision should be based on your facial movement, concerns, and goals.
Are There Side Effects From BOTOX?
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites can occur.
Other side effects are possible, which is why your medical history and treatment plan will be reviewed before your injections. Your injector will discuss potential risks with you and answer any questions before treatment.
I’ve Had BOTOX Somewhere Else. Can I Switch Providers?
Absolutely. If you’ve received BOTOX or another neuromodulator elsewhere, you can still receive treatment at Rammos Plastic Surgery & MedSpa.
